A BRIEF HISTORY OF UU-BRU INTERNET RADIO:

1976-1977  Several charts were created using surveys for the school paper.

September 17, 1977  The original Fido Flash 40 was introduced in my junior high newspaper, using a bi-weekly poll to determine to the chart.  The charts over the summer of 1978 and 1979 were self determined due to school not being in session.

January 7, 1978  Fido Flash 40 becomes a weekly chart.

November 14, 1979  The Fido Flash 40 becomes WBRU Radio Playlist as the school survey is dropped and the Top 40 becomes my personal chart.

February 1983  MTV arrived in my household and songs were now eligible to debut as an album cut if there was a video available.

May 25, 1985  After weeks of not being available, Madonna's "Into The Groove" debuts at number one, resulting in chart eligibility for 12 inch singles.

January 5, 1991  With the decline of available singles, WBRU Radio Playlist adopts an "album track" policy.

August 7, 1993  Roberta Flack debuts on WBRU Radio Playlist with the first non-commercial track, taken from a video tape transfer.

December 27, 1997  After years of compiling my chart on Tuesday before the Saturday chart date, I began to make my chart on Thursday, 9 days prior to chart date to match Billboard online.

January 1, 1999  After 20 years of using a "must be available to purchase" policy to chart singles, it is changed to "must be able to download".

April 22, 2002  WBRU Radio Playlist changes to UU-BRU Radio Playlist when it debuts online not to be confused with the real WBRU. The year end archives dating back to 1978 debut.

December 28, 2002  Year end archives from 1955 to 1977 are added to complete a history of the rock era.  These charts are compiled from a variety of sources including radio charts, national charts, personal charts and record collections.

April 24, 2003  Year End archives are published for the entire rock era before UU-BRU Radio Playlist was created in 1978.  These charts are based another set of personal charts, local radio station playlists and national trade charts.  All songs were ranked using the same point system to compare to post-1978 charts.  Weekly chart records on this page only date back to 1978.

February 3, 2004  UU-BRU Radio Playlist makes it's official debut on LIVE365, combining listeners requests and rankings to determine the chat.  CLICK HERE to listen (free registration required).
