rewind to 1959
Two years earlier, The Everly Brothers finished the year at number two with "All I Have To Do Is Dream".  In 1960, the brothers from Kentucky sealed the deal with "Cathy's Clown".  Elvis Presley nearly captured the top two spots of the year but had to settle for number two and number three with "It's Now Or Never" and "Are You Lonesome Tonight".  Elvis Presley had held down the top three positions three years earlier.  Elvis did rank as the year's most succesful act for the third time following 1956 and 1957, the first act to hit that mark during the rock era.  Brenda Lee became the youngest star of the rock era to date.  She spent almost all of 1960 at the age of 15, charting with several hit singles during the year.  The biggest of which, "I'm Sorry" landed at number four.  Brenda Lee had two minor hits in 1957, but broke through in 1960, making her the top new act of the year.  Despite Brenda Lee's success, Connie Francis scored more points during the year to earn top female artist of 1960.  Connie Francis had three singles in the year end top 20.  Her biggest hit of the year, "Everybody's Somebody's Fool" fell in at #12.  For the second consecutive year, Paul Anka placed a single in the year end top ten with "Puppy Love" at #7.
