After having minimal success as The Four Lovers, the quartet from New Jersey, led by Frankie Valli changed their name to The Four Seasons and literally exploded on the charts in 1962.  They became the first act to hold down the top two year end positions since Elvis Presley in 1957.  "Sherry" and "Big Girls Don't Cry" easily outdistanced all other songs during the year and made The Four Seasons the biggest act of the year.  The number three single "The Loco-motion" by Little Eva was penned by Carole King.  King had also co-written the biggest single of 1961, The Shirelles "Will You Love Me Tomorrow".  The Shirelles returned in 1962 with "Soldier Boy" at number seven.  In 1960, Chubby Checker ranked at number ten with "The Twist".  Due to an increase in popularity and the dance craze, the single was re-released and landed at number five for 1962.  "The Twist" is only song to rank in the top ten by the same artist more than once on UU-BRU Radio Gold Archives.  After four consecutive years as the reigning top female artist, Connie Francis was displaced by Brenda Lee.  "Break It To Me Gently" was Brenda Lee's highest charting year end single, just missing the top ten at #11.  Brenda Lee had three singles in the year end Top 40 while Connie Francis only had one, "Don't Break The Heart That Loves You" at #14.
