The Beatles continued to dominate the charts in 1965. This time they managed to capture the top two positions of the year. "Help!" and "Yesterday" finished the year nearly tied in points. The Beatles also finished at #8 with "Eight Days A Week". The Supremes also placed a pair of singles in the top five for the year with "Back In My Arms Again" and "Stop! In The Name Of Love". A third act, The Rolling Stones, broke through in 1965 with two singles among the year's ten biggest. "Satisfaction" was #6, while "Get Off My Cloud" ended at #9. The year's biggest new act wasn't that new after all. Petula Clark had been a child star in her native England, but "Downtown" was her first success in America. A second single for Petula Clark, "I Know A Place" was the #26 single of 1965, helping make her the year's biggest female artist. Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons were still hanging on with another hit single ("Let's Hang On" at #12). Once known as Ceasar and Cleo, the husband and wife team of Sonny & Cher spent several weeks at the top in 1965 with "I Got You Babe" (#7). The top male of artist of 1965, Tom Jones, had two hits during the year. "It's Not Unusual" ranked at #33, while "What's New Pussycat" missed the year end top 40, coming in at #46.
