The most interesting mystery of rock 'n roll folklore may be what was actually thrown off the bridge in "Ode To Billie Joe". Top new act Bobbie Gentry hailed from Mississippi. Frank Sinatra teamed up with his daughter, Nancy, on "Something Stupid" and proved to be a winning combination ranking at number four for the year. Following the success of The Beatles, television created a series based on a fictional group. The Monkees, however, were real and placed several singles on the year end chart, including the second biggest hit of 1967, "I'm A Believer" written by Neil Diamond. A second track wriiten by Neil Diamond and performed by The Monkees, "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You" finished the year at #10. The Monkees narrowly missed having three singles in the Top 10 as "Daydream Believer" fell short at #11. The Beatles, though, did place three singles in the Top 10, bringing their grand total to 13 year end top ten singles since 1964. The Supremes ranked at #15 with "The Happening", but Diana Ross was elevated to "star" status as the group was renamed Diana Ross & The Supremes during 1967. Their biggest hit to date with the new moniker was "Reflections" at #9.
