"Wedding Bell Blues" may have had timely lyrics for Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, but the Laura Nyro composition also proved to be a hit across the nation giving The Fifth Dimension the biggest single of 1969.  The Los Angeles based group became the fourth act to hold down the top two positions of the year on UU-BRU Radio Gold Archives following Elvis Presley (1956), Four Seasons (1962) and The Beatles (1965).  Their other year end hit, "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In" was a medley of two songs from Hair.  The Fifth Dimnsion medley wasn't the only hit to emerge from the Broadway musical in 1969.  The Cowsills ended the year at #4 with the title song, while Oliver ranked at #10 with "Good Morning Sunshine".  Barbra Streisand also charted with a minor hit in 1968 with "Frank Mills", while Three Dog Night finished the year at #36 with "Easy To Be Hard".  The top new act of 1969 was a jazz-pop group led by David Clayton-Thomas, Blood, Sweat and Tears.  Their first three releases all peaked at number two on Billboard's Hot 100.  All three placed on the UU-BRU Radio Playlist 1969 Top 40, including their biggest, "You Made Me So Very Happy" at #6.  Diana Ross and The Supremes reached #1 with their last single together also featuring Johnny Bristol on guest vocals.  "Someday We'll Be Together" was the final chart topper of the 1960's and ranked at number seven for 1969.
UU-BRU Radio Playlist was created in 1978.  All UU-BRU Radio Gold Archives prior to 1978 are a compilation of year end charts from national trade magazines, several radio stations and other sources.  Weeks at number one refer to Billboard.
