rewind to 1969
As the 1970's began, several major acts from the 1960's were ending or changing lineups.  Diana Ross was no longer with The Supremes and had her first major hit with her second solo release, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" at #6.  The Supremes faired well without Ross as "Stoned Love" finished the year at #13 with new lead singer Jean Terrell.  The Beatles had their final chart toppers with "Let It Be" (#3) and "The Long And Winding Road" (#27), while John Lennon scored with "Instant Karma" (#28) and George Harrison with "My Sweet Lord" (#15).  Even though these groups were coming to an end, another new act was emerging as a supergroup.  The Jackson 5 from Gary, Indiana, placed four singles in the Top 40, including their biggest hit of the year, "ABC" at #10.  They were the top new act of the year as well as the biggest act of the year.   The top single of 1970 was by Marmalade.  The group hailed from Scotland and released several singles, but "Reflections Of My Life" was their only single to reach the national Top 40 while topping UU-BRU Radio Gold Archives 1970 survey.  After scoring the top two singles of 1969, The Fifth Dimension came back strong in 1970 with the fourth biggest single of year, "One Less Bell To Answer".
