35 songs reached #1 on Billboard in 1974

    Canadians dominated the top three singles of 1974.  Canadian songmaster Gordon Lightfoot had been known best for his his single "If You Could Read My Mind".  In 1974 he reached number one with "Sundown".  He followed the chart topper with "Carefree Highway", a top ten hit later in the year.  Fellow Canadians Bachman-Turner Overdrive locked up the number two spot with "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet".  Rounding out the top three was Paul Anka, also from Ontario with his comeback, the controversial "Having My Baby".  Paper Lace charted in 1974 with both "The Night Chicago Died" and "Billy Don't Be A Hero".  Even though Bo Donaldson had the bigger version of "Billy, Don't Be A Hero", Paper Lace redeemed themselves with "The Night Chicago Died".  Grank Funk finished the year at number sevem with their cover of "The Loco-motion".  Little Eva's original single was the number three single of 1962.  Barbra Streisand had her first national number one single, the title track to The Way We Were.  Odia Coates earned Top New Act honors, yet she never releaseed a solo single during the year.  Both of her 1974 singles were recorded with Paul Anka, including the previously mentioned #3 single of the year. "(You're) Having My Baby".  The Beatles kept their prescence known, not only as solo artists, but with Anne Murray's cover of "You Won't See Me" at #15.
