Paul McCartney became only the second person to top UU-BRU Radio Gold Archives for the year as a performing act following Elvis Presley (1956 & 1957). Paul McCartney also topped the 1965 chart with "Help!" as a member of The Beatles. "Silly Love Songs" was the most successful single to date for any of The Beatles as solo artists. Elton John finished 1976 at number two with his duet with Kiki Dee, "Don't Go Breaking My Heart". Diana Ross had her best year end finish solo or as a Supreme as "Love Hangover" ranked at number three. Diana Ross also ranked at #17 with the theme to her film, Mahogany, "Do You Know Where You're Going To". Both hits helped propel her as the top female artist of the 1976. Silver Convention followed their 1975 hit "Fly, Robin, Fly" with another year end Top 10 single, "Get Up And Boogie" at #10 for 1976. Although he was known as a songwriter, Barry Manilow's "I Write The Songs" is not one of them. The track was composed by Bruce Johnston. Barry Manilow also had a connection with 1976's top new act. Donna Summer charted with her cover of Manilow's 1975 single, "Could It Be Magic". Donna Summer's biggest hit of 1976 was "Love To Love You Baby" at #13.
UU-BRU Radio Playlist was created in 1978. All UU-BRU Radio Gold Archives prior to 1978 are a compilation of year end charts from national trade magazines, several radio stations and other sources. Weeks at number one refer to Billboard.
