20 songs reached #1 on UU-BRU in 1978
"Grease" was the word in 1978. The soundtrack produced five Top 40 singles including the top two singles of the year, both duets by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. The first week of August, four of the top six singles were from the soundtrack. The title track by Frankie Valli peaked at #3 with "Greased Lightning" by John Travolta reaching #21. Olivia Newton-John scored a third chart topper from Grease with "Hopelessly Devoted To You" and was poised for fourth consecutive number one hit as "A Little More Love" reached number two at the end of December. Olivia wasn't the only artist to collect three chart toppers in 1978. Billy Joel completed a hat trick of his own with "Just The Way You Are", "Moving Out" and "My Life". The Bee Gees also earned a trio of number one singles with "How Deep Is Your Love", "Staying Alive" and "Night Fever". Donna Summer broke through to mainstream success with the year's longest running chart topper "Last Dance" spending seven weeks at the top.
