24 songs reached #1 on UU-BRU in 1979
The summer of 1979 belonged to the Queen of Disco herself.  During the course of the year, she scored five chart toppers, all of which placed in the year end Top 20.  A total of 16 weeks were spent at number one by Donna Summer. In late October, she teamed with superstar singer/actress Barbra Streisand on "No More Tears", the first song to enter UU-BRU Radio Playlist at number one.  Streisand also had solo success in 1979 with the theme to her movie The Main Event.  Blondie, led by the charismatic Deborah Harry, collected a pair of chart toppers as well as another top five single ("One Way Or Another"), just edging out Australia's Little River Band for the top group of 1979.  Peaches & Herb returned in 1979 with a new disco image and a new Peaches, earning a pair of number one hits.  Country crossover star Kenny Rogers did not hit the top during the year, but earned top male artist honors on the strength of two top ten hits ("She Believes In Me" and "You Decorated My Life").  While former Beatles Paul McCartney and George Harrison scored number one hits, a new band called The Knack tried to duplicate the original success of The Fab Four with the year's #6 single, "My Sharona".
