HUMAN LEAGUE
"Don't You Want Me"
A new British pop music invasion flooded the charts in 1982.  Human League's "Don't You Want Me" became the first single to spend 10 weeks at number one on UU-BRU Radio Playlist.  With an expanding playlist of promotional music videos, MTV opened the door for other British acts making their chart debut in 1982 including A Flock Of Seagulls, Men At Work and Duran Duran.  Despite the success of the new bands, several veteran acts scored big as well during the year including Kenny Rogers, Linda Ronstadt and Joe Cocker.  After several hit ballads, Melissa Manchester's changed her tune with the uptempo "You Should Hear How She Talks About You", scoring her first number one hit and landing at #2 for the year.  John Cougar made the top five twice during the year with "Hurts So Good" and "Jack And Diane", finishing the year at #12 and #11 respectively.  Rick Springfield nearly duplicated his 1981 success with the year's third biggest hit, "Don't Talk To Strangers".  He also placed two more songs at number one during 1982 with "Love Is Alright Tonite" (#29) and "What Kind Of Fool Am I" (#28), making him the Top Male Artist for the second year in a row.  Olivia Newton-John also earned Top Female Artist honors for the second time following 1978.  Former Runaway Joan Jett took her new band, The Blackhearts, all the way to the top with "I Love Rock 'N Roll".  On February 13, 1982, the song made a 29 spot jump (#39 to #10) , the largest  move on UU-BRU Radio Playlist to date.
