Chrissie Hynde led her band, The Pretenders, to the top of the chart in February with "Back On The Chain Gang". Although the song only spent a single week at number one, it logged 15 weeks in the top ten, edging Bonnie Tyler by four points for the top single of 1983. New York based Scandal, led by Zack Smith and Patty Smyth, scored a pair of top five singles with their first two releases. Both "Goodbye To You" and "Love's Got A Line On You" landed in the year end Top 10, making Scandal the top group and new act of the year. Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks continued her successful solo career in 1983 with three top five singles, including the number one hit, "Stand Back". Prince played on Stevie Nick's number one hit, while scoring his first chart topper, "Little Red Corvette". He also wrote another number one single, "When You Were Mine", covered by Mitch Ryder and produced by John Cougar Mellencamp. Two of the year's biggest singles were duets by Kenny Rogers. Sheena Easton teamed up with Rogers on a remake of Bob Seger's "We've Got Tonight". Later in the year, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers scored a Top 5 single with "Islands In The Stream".
