UU-BRU Radio Playlist was only six years old when Patty Smyth and Scandal ruled the summer of 1984.  "The Warrior" became the first song to log 11 weeks at number one.  It also earned over 1,000 points, the only song to do so on UU-BRU Radio Playlistuntil 1998.  Scandal followed "The Warrior" with another chart topper, "Hands Tied".  The Pointer Sisters made it to the top of the chart three times in 1984.  Two of those hits, "Jump For My Love" and "I'm So Excited" ranked at #3 and #4 for the year.  "I'm So Excited" was also a number one single in 1982 in a slightly remixed version.  Newcomer Cyndi Lauper had four top 40 singles during 1984, including the #5 song of the year, "Time After Time", help making her the top female artist, top new act and top act overall of 1984.  Another newcomer, Madonna, had the year's highest weekly debut when "Like A Virgin" opened at #3 in November.  "Left In The Dark" was a marginal hit nationally, but Barbra Streisand's version of the Jim Steinman epic soared to the top of UU-BRU Radio Playlist. Former co-star of Dukes Of Hazzard John Schneider made an impressive comeback, taking "I've Been Around Enough To Know" to number one amongst competitors Prince, Bruce Springsteen and Scandal.
