TOP SINGLE OF 1998

SHANIA TWAIN
"From This Moment On"
Country music dominated UU-BRU Radio Playlist in 1998, led by crossover queen Shania Twain.  She captured the top two positions of the year, matching a feat accomplished by Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta in 1978 and Donna Summer in 1979.  She also placed another four singles on the chart during the year.  "From This Moment On" began it's chart run as a duet with Bryan White, but a solo pop remix re-entered the chart at number one in September, giving the song a chart run of 33 weeks.  "From This Moment On" became only the second single to score over 1,000 points in the 21 year history of UU-BRU Radio Playlist.  Seven of the year's top ten singles were country crossovers.  Faith Hill scored back-to-back chart toppers with "This Kiss" (#9) and "Just To Hear You Say That You Love Me" (#8).  The Wilkinsons, led by 16 year old Amanda, hit number one the first time out with "26 Cents".  Gary Allan spent nine weeks at number two during the summer with "It Would Be You" earning enough points to make him the year's top male artist.  He was the only male soloist to place a single in the female dominated year end top ten.  Top new act Natalie Imbruglia from Australia also peaked at number two with "Torn".  Alanis Morissette and Celine Dion each produced a pair of number one singles during the year.  Alanis Morissette took "Uninvited" from City Of Angels to the top, while Celine Dion was represented by "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic.
