Matchbox Twenty never climbed higher than #2 on the weekly chart with "Unwell", yet their 28 week run enabled them to score one more point than veteran rock band Fleetwood Mac to claim the top spot of the year on UU-BRU Radio Playlist. The last time a non-number one single topped the year end survey was 15 years earlier in 1988. Toby Keith easily earned Top Act Overall with two of his singles landing in the year end Top 10; "Beer For My Horses" (#9) and "I Love This Bar" (#4). The latter debuted at number one in late August and remained in the Top 5 the rest of 2003. Toby Keith, along with Shania Twain, Bruce Springsteen and Whitney Houston were able to hit number one twice during the year. Whitney Houston had the first number one of the 2003 calendar year in January ("One Of Those Days", #102) as well as the last chart topper of the year in December ("One Wish", #79). Her number one singles may have been hurt by the calendar year, but her number two hit, "Try It On My Own", spent it's entire 21 week chart run in 2003, making it the sixth biggest hit of the year. Lisa Marie Presley scored more points than Evanescence, but was ineligible for Top New Act due to a 1997 appearance on UU-BRU Radio Playlist with "Don't Cry Daddy". Her single, "Lights Out" spent the most weeks at number one with an eight week run at the top. Santana reached the top five twice in 2003 with "Why Don't You And I", first in January with Nickelback's Chad Kroeger (#73). In September, a new version recorded with The Calling's Alex Band also peaked at #5 and finished the year at #12. If combined, both versions of "Why Don't You And I", earn four more points than Matchbox Twenty's "Unwell" during 2003.
