In 1984 Cyndi Lauper captured Top New Act and Top Act Of The Year on UU- BRU Internet Radio. Eleven years later in 1995, Hootie & The Blowfish did the same. Another eleven years later in 2006, Daniel Powter achieved the same success, but went one step further as his debut single, "Bad Day", ranked the biggest hit of 2006. Used as the theme song for departing contestants on AMERICAN IDOL 5, "Bad Day" helped turn the Canadian native into a superstar. Like Cyndi Lauper and Hootie & The Blowfish, Daniel Powter also reached #1 with his second chart single, "Lie To Me" (#12). American Idol 5 produced a new crop of talent with 10 of the top 12 finalists charting before year's end including champion Taylor Hicks, the only act to score three hits in the year end Top 40 (#11, #13, #39). Third place finisher Elliott Yamin captured the hearts of America and had the year's longest running number one hit at nine weeks with "Moody's Mood For Love". Elliott Yamin also finished the year at #1 with a cover of Donny Hathaway's "This Christmas" (#135). The only other act to reach number one more than once in 2006 was Sir Paul McCartney with "Jenny Wren" (#91) in January and "This Never Happened Before" (#3) in April, his biggest hit to date on UU-BRU Internet Radio. The soundtrack to BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN produced a pair of number one hits with Emmylou Harris ("A Love That Will Never Grow Old", #2) and Teddy Thompson ("I Don't Want To Say Goodbye", #14). Both hits were written by Argentinean-American guitarist Gustavo Santaolalla and long-time Elton John collaborator Bernie Taupin. For the third year in a row Big & Rich placed a song in the year end top ten ("Never Mind Me", #10), giving them Top Group honors for the second consecutive year. Pink captured Top Female Act honors for a second time as well, following her win in 2002.
