For the third consecutive year, a song associated with the AMERICAN IDOL franchise emerged as the year's biggest single on UU-BRU Internet Radio. AMERICAN IDOL 7 champion David Cook's coronation song, "The Time Of My Life", outscored all other singles and with five top ten hits during 2008, he easily earned Top Male Act and Top Act Overall, but was ineligible for Top New Act due to the release of an earlier solo album. Another AI7 contestant, Brooke White, landed at #12 with a cover of Coldplay's breakthrough single "Yellow" from 1999. Coldplay had their most successful year to date on UU-BRU Internet Radio with "Viva La Vida" finishing the year at #2 as well as collecting Top Group honors for the first time, narrowly beating newcomers OneRepublic featuring popular songwriter Ryan Tedder. Broadway superstar Idina Menzel crossed over to the pop chart with three number one hits during the year including "Defying Gravity" (#6), "Brave" (#20) and "A Hero Comes Home" (#22). Among a recording breaking total of 33 chart toppers during the year, Idina Menzel's three number one hits tied David Cook for second place behind Elliott Yamin's individual total of four including "Home" (#51), the year's longest running number one hit at six weeks. Elliott Yamin also landed at #10 with his cover of Elton John's "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" from 1994, making his third consecutive appearance in the UU-BRU Internet Radio year end top ten. Legendary disco queen Donna Summer scored her highest year end ranking since 1979 with "Stamp Your Feet" at #3. Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglová of The Swell Season won an Academy Award for Best Song with "Falling Slowly" from ONCE, finishing 2008 at #5, the highest ranking Oscar winner since "My Heart Will Go On" from TITANIC ten years earlier in 1998.
